Identified Visitor
Identified visitor is a built-in signal. When your website identifies a person, Syft finds who they are: name, title, company and LinkedIn profile. That person becomes a contact you can see, filter and act on with motions.
It is on by default. You find it first in the Website tab of the Signals page.
What counts
A person is identified when the Syft tag sees their email through one of these sources:
| Source | What it means |
|---|---|
| Signups | People who create an account in your product. |
| Form submissions | Demo requests, contact-us and other submitted forms. |
| Partial form fills | Emails typed into a form that was never submitted. |
| Logins & identify calls | Returning users identified when they log in. |
| Tracking links | Visitors who arrive through a personalized link. |
| Visitor tagging | Visitors your team tagged manually. |
| HubSpot tracking | Visitors identified through the HubSpot tracking cookie. |
RB2B identification is a separate signal with its own price. See RB2B Visitor Identification.
Turn it on or off
- Go to Signals under Settings.
- In the Website tab, find the Identified visitor card.
- Use the toggle to turn it on or off.
When it is off, new visitors are still captured with their email, but Syft does not look them up and does not charge for them.
If you do not have permission to edit signals, the card says to ask a workspace admin.
Choose sources and email types
Click Configure on the card to narrow what counts:
- Sources: turn off any source you never act on. Partial form fills are a common one.
- Email type: count All emails, Work emails only (skips gmail.com, outlook.com and other free providers) or Personal emails only.
Click Save changes. New people follow the new settings from then on. While the signal is on, the card shows a short summary, for example "On for 5 of 7 website sources, work emails only."
Billing
Identified visitor is billed as a Signal Credit:
- 1 credit per unique person per billing period. Later visits, logins and form fills from the same person in that period are free.
- One charge per person across finding signals. Identified visitor, Mentioned in Slack and RB2B Visitor Identification share one count per person per period. If RB2B found someone first, their form fill costs nothing more.
- Only people Syft finds are charged. A lookup that finds no one is free.
- A returning person is charged again in a new billing period, the first time they are identified that period.
- If you also activate the person with a motion, the normal contact activation charge applies separately.
To see who was charged, open Plans & Billing and click Identified visitor in the Signal credits table. Each person shows how they were found, such as Form Submission or Sign Up.
See Credits & Usage for the full billing model.
FAQ
Is this the same as Syft de-anonymization?
No. Identified visitor covers people who give you their email: a form, a signup, a login. Syft's de-anonymization of anonymous traffic is billed only when you act on the person, at the de-anonymized activation rate.
Why was a person charged when they already were a contact?
Each billing period starts a new count. The first time a known person is identified in a new period, they are charged once for that period.
How do I spend fewer credits?
Turn off sources you never act on, or count work emails only. Personal emails rarely match a person, so they often cost a credit for little data.
